Hamabe Seisakusho has installed a punch/fiber laser multifunction machine at its main factory, which will be operational within the month. The investment will amount to 200 million yen. The combined punch and fiber laser machine will be operated unmanned 24 hours a day, including die changes, to improve processing efficiency and save manpower. The machine is also equipped with a material feeder and product accumulator, which automatically feeds six types of materials at the right time to handle small-lot, high-mix sheet metal processing. Panasonic and Micro Chemical Giken (Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki City), a venture company from the University of Tokyo, announced on April 6 that they have developed a technology to mass produce micro chemical chips, which can be used to create a single chip for analytical equipment used in blood tests, pharmaceuticals, and environmental research. The glass molding method used for the production of aspheric lenses for cameras, etc., which was owned by Panasonic, was converted to the new method. With the newly developed technology, it is possible to produce chips with a diameter of up to 50 mm and mass produce tens of thousands of chips per month.
